Decades after their clash at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, a middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence met once again as martial arts rivals. While filming the original Karate Kid, late director John G. The team behind Cobra Kai scoured the studio and found tons of never-before-seen clips that they were able to introduce into the series via flashbacks. One of them also shows Zabka’s real-life mother standing in the stands from different angles, which wasn’t seen until 2018.
Another interesting fact, however, is that The Karate Kid II

Many believe that Miyagi’s name on his tombstone is a continuity error, as his name is the next one in Karate Kid 4 (1994). Keisuke, but it was actually previously shown on a sign Chozen held up for him in Karate Kid 2 (1986) to become Nariyoshi. This means that The Next Karate Kid changed his name, while Cobra Kai kept the name he was given earlier.
There’s a lot to like about this series
part of his name was not his original name. Miyagi. In The Karate Kid (1984), it is briefly shown on Miyagi’s dog tag, attached to the keys to the 1948 Ford given to Daniel for his birthday, that Miyagi’s first name is Hideo. Johnny Lawrence’s reaction is priceless
Rejecting political correctness and victim culture is probably for the best in my book. Indeed, rejection is a strong word, and this is by no means a protest play, but there is definitely a theme of taking responsibility for one’s own destiny and facing adversity with resilience and even some aggression. (The show is smart enough to portray aggression or overt anger as counterproductive.) There’s a great scene at a karate tournament when the competitor starts making hypocritical virtue signals to the crowd. Let’s hope Hollywood realizes that virtue signaling is not a prerequisite for great entertainment.
